 A new developer is taking on the huge, five-story factory that has been closed for nearly two decades. A historic former manufacturing facility will soon begin its transformation into a large apartment building and microbrewery in one of Saratoga County’s largest economic development initiatives in a decade. This $60 million endeavor, spearheaded by the Saratoga County Prosperity Partnership and Regan Development, is expected to revitalize the long-vacant Victory Mills, located on Gates Avenue in the Town of Saratoga’s Village of Victory.

The Daily Gazette: New Apartment Proposal for Victory Mills in Saratoga County

 

The long-vacant mill building that dominates the landscape in the tiny Saratoga County village of Victory would become a 186-unit apartment complex with an on-site microbrewery under a plan announced Wednesday. The Saratoga County Prosperity Partnership is working with Regan Development of Westchester County on the project at the 101-year-old, 230,000-square-foot Victory Mills.

Albany Times Union: Saratoga Partnership Measures Health of Warehouse and Logistics Industry

 

Data collected by the partnership found that there are 100 transportation and warehousing operations in the county and that between 2001 and 2017, employment in the sector has risen 21 percent from 1,470 jobs to 1,772 jobs. The partnership also says that the average annual wage in the sector has increased, from $36,221 in 2007 to $46,755 in 2018, a 29 percent rise that the group says is above the state and national average.

Community News: Sugar Hill Road Solar Project Underway

 

Ground was broken on a solar project not far from the Mohawk River that will provide enough clean energy to power 600 homes. The 7.2-megawatt project on 40 acres in the middle of the Hicks farm at 160 Sugar Hill Road is being developed by U.S. Light Energy, a leading New York solar energy company that specializes in the development of solar electric and community solar systems.

Solar Power World: US Light Energy Begins Construction on 7-MW Community Solar Project in New York

 

New York solar developer US Light Energy officially broke ground on its latest community solar initiative. The Sugar Hill Solar Farm, to be located on 40 acres of land on the Sugar-Hill/Sugar-View Farm on Sugar Hill Road, will be the first community solar farm developed in Clifton Park, New York. The 7-MW ground-mount solar project will encompass nearly 20,000 solar modules. When fully operational later this year, it is expected to produce more than 8.6 million kWh of clean energy annually.

Miriam Dushane has been recruiting for more than 20 years, and today is managing partner of Alaant Workforce Solutions. Dushane said it remains challenging to place people in technology jobs, but it is not impossible. At Alaant, recruiters will first tap into the network of people they know in the region. About 60 percent of the candidates they talk to are passive candidates who are not actively looking for a job but are open to learning more. People are looking for more out of a job than just a steady paycheck, Dushane said, and are willing to move for the right benefits and company culture.

Watertown Daily Times: Firm to Build Six Solar Arrays to Serve Consortium

 

The group of schools, towns and villages working together to reduce their electricity costs have signed a deal with a developer to build solar arrays and provide them with energy. U.S. Light Energy, Latham, has agreed to erect six arrays, each one two megawatts, for the Tri-County Energy Consortium. The overall 20-megawatt project will include almost 46,000 panels and generate about 20 million kilowatt hours of electricity, enough to power about 2,000 homes.
